How did the scriptures become a book?
The scriptures are technically not a single book. The scriptures are a collection of writings.
It took about 1000 years to produce the scriptures. Its authors included kings, shepherds, tax collectors, lawyers, prophets, and fishermen. Some authors are anonymous.
Different people and groups collected the writings. Over time, these writings compose the sacred writings known as the scriptures.
What is the subject of the scriptures?
The scriptures include narrative, songs, wisdom, speeches, and other material. The subject regards God's dealings with people. It provides the information necessary for people to follow him. This includes examples and instructions regarding his expectations. If you read them, you will then know what you should do.
By what names are the scriptures known?
The scriptures are known by many names, including:
- the Bible;
- the holy Bible;
- the scriptures;
- the holy scriptures;
- the Hebrew Bible;
- the New Testament;
- the Old Testament;
- the Christian Bible;
- the good book;
- the good news;
- the law, the writings, and the prophets; and
- the Tanakh.
